Nacional (Brazil) and Scuola Italiana (Uruguay) played the last all-or-nothing match of the day. A draw was not a good option for both teams, Nacional needed to win to secure a place in the semifinals and Scuola needed a good goal difference to qualify.
In the end, the local team won and became semifinalists of the South Central American Senior Championship.
The team coached by Silvio Rodrigues Da Silva started off strong in the first half, but Scuola Italiana quickly managed to tie the match.
The Brazilian team was able to take advantage of their opponents’ mistakes and quickly went on the attack. In addition, Eduarda Bavaresco, the goalkeeper, kept the difference in the scoreboard. The first half ended 10-9 in favor of Nacional.
Eduarda Bavaresco’s saves prevented Scuola from getting closer on the scoreboard and maintaining the goal difference. Nacional pressed the accelerator even harder to close the game 26-19 and qualify for the semifinals.
The MVP of the match was Nacional’s goalkeeper, Eduarda Bavaresco.
Post-match statements:
Maíra Campos, Nacional player: “We are very happy for the qualification. It was a very tough match but we were able to achieve our goal of qualifying and we are going to play in the semifinals”.
