On May 21, the South Central American Women’s Club Handball Championship will begin in the city of San José in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The Pinheiros team won both editions (2022, 2023) and will seek to become a three-time champion.
Mayara Moura is in her ninth season as a Pinheiros player, “… I am eager, anxious and above all grateful to participate for another year with Esporte Clube Pinheiros, a club I have been a part of since 2015 and have the honor of representing the blue and black colors…” said the experienced player who was a world champion with the Brazilian national team.
The preparation work began at the beginning of February, “… we are focusing on the main competitions of the year, one of which is the South Central American…”, commented Moura and added: “…. We started with more physical demands and now we are in a stage where the matches of the national competition serve as preparation for the South Central”.
“For Esporte Clube Pinheiros to participate in an international competition with the best teams in South and Central America is very important, given the few matches we have within the domestic competition. Expectations are very high and we know how difficult the competition is and what it means to keep the title.”
Regarding the two teams with which they share a group, Sedalo and Jockey Club, both from Argentina, he said: “Nowadays, with the ease of the Internet, we can have access to some of the games of the teams that are in our group and so we can analyze them at our leisure. We also have friends who bring us some information about the changes they may have. And along with that, I think it is very important to take advantage of this remaining week so that we can be more connected and have more confidence in our game strategies. It will be a very important week to take advantage of and to correct the details.”
Lívia Martins Horácio Ventura, Pinheiros’ player says that it is very important to participate in the Tournament and that it not only strengthens the sporting spirit, but also enriches the team’s experience and learning, and they have great expectations that this Tournament will be a step towards the second edition of the Women’s Club World Championship.
“The expectations for this edition are high, especially for the challenge of qualifying, so we have to face all the matches as if they were finals, giving our best from start to finish,” said Lívia Martins Horácio Ventura.
