Defending champion San Fernando defeated River Plate in the SCA Club Handball SCA

The fourth edition of the SCA Men’s Club Handball Championship takes place in the city of Taubaté, Brazil until June 1st. In the 18:00 game, two Argentine teams faced each other, San Fernando, champions in the 2023 edition, and River Plate, the team coached by Elio Fernández won 33-25.

Juan Ignacio Noto goal opened the account for the current champions, demonstrating that they would go all out for the second championship. The good defense of Elio Rubén Fernández team, together with an effective counterattack, gave them the advantage in the first minutes of the game. However, throughout the first half the rival found spaces in San Fernando’s solid defense and managed to close the gap on the scoreboard. The teams went to halftime 16-11 in favor of San Fernando.

In the second half, River fast starts complicated San Fernando defense, but a series of saves by their goalkeeper, Fabio Sozzi Vaz, prevented Los Millonarios from getting closer to the scoreboard. Thanks to these defensive interventions, the champions launched quick counterattacks that ended in goals, dismantling River defense and extending the advantage on the scoreboard. About the end, San Fernando showed why it has the title of champion and defeated River Plate 33-25.
The MVP of the game was Francisco Soto of San Fernando.

Mariano Canepa, San Fernando player.We have known River for years, we knew it was going to be a very tough match from the beginning. We had to start with the right foot, so we are happy, now we have to rest for tomorrow”.

Matías Lima, River Plate player: “It showed that we were playing against the last champion, we knew it was going to be a difficult game. In spite of everything, we had a good second half, the first half was a little difficult for us because it was the first game, but we hope to do better tomorrow”.
