This Thursday afternoon Uruguay and Argentina met in the 3rd edition of the South Central American Beach Handball Tournament. In a match that was not decided until the end, the ‘Charrúas’ failed to take the match to Shoot Out and ‘the Kamikazes’ took the victory and qualification for the next World Cup.
It was a match in which Gisella Bonomi (ARG) and María García (URU) were the top scorers with 14 goals. Argentina managed to win its second consecutive victory by 2 sets to 0, with partials of 25-16 and 14-12. While the light blue one is still unable to win.
The start of the first set was even, goal by goal, but as the minutes passed, Argentina managed to impose its game and open a greater difference on the scoreboard. In addition, the Kamikaze goalkeeper, Florencia Bericio, added key saves to sustain the result.
In the second set there were many ups and downs for both teams. The Argentines started with a partial lead of 10-2 and it seemed that they were going to take the second set comfortably, however, the Uruguayan spirit appeared and they managed to tie the match at 10. The goalkeepers of both teams had a very good second set, closing their respective goals, but Bericio covered everything at the end, allowing the Albiceleste team the victory.
Post-match statements:
Florencia Bericio, player of the Argentina National Team: “We came from playing a super important match against Uruguay, we came to play with everything, we had a lot at stake. “We managed to win it 2-0 and thus qualify for the World Cup, which is our first objective in this tournament”.
Ana Iglesias player of the Chilean National Team: “It was a tough match against Argentina, we came for everything and there were little things in which we failed. But hey, we are facing Chile tomorrow, giving it our all”.
