Great victory for Argentina over Chile at the Beach HSCA, the Beach Handball Championship kicked off this Wednesday in Asunción.
Tournament serves as a qualifier for the World Cup, with two places up for grabs in the women’s competition and three in the men’s. The Kamikazes made their debut with a 2-0 victory over Chile.
First set
Argentina convincingly defeated the Chilean side at the start of the 3rd edition of the SCA Beach Handball Championship. The Kamikazes imposed their style of play and secured victory with scores of 20–13 in the first set and 24–10 in the second.
A superb performance by Chile’s goalkeeper in the first set prevented Argentina from extending their lead further.
However, Agustina Mirotta’s effective wing counter-attack managed to break through the opposition’s defence, allowing her team to maintain their lead throughout the first half.
Second set
The start of the second set was slightly more even, with the Chileans managing to be effective in attack and level the score.
However, Leticia Brunetti’s side capitalised on minor errors in the Chilean defence and demonstrated their superiority by extending the lead to over 10 goals.
A great start for the Kamikazes as they seek their place at the World Cup in China and aim to be crowned champions.
Other results
Furthermore, the Paraguay and Uruguay teams were the first to play on the new pitch at the Olympic Committee.
In a thrilling match that went to a shoot-out, Paraguay secured victory 2-1, with set scores of 10-9, 10-11 and 5-4 in the shoot out.

“We’re really happy with the win. We were a bit nervous, and there are a few things we need to work on, but we stayed focused on the match the whole time and it paid off”.
Mariana Santamaria, Chile national team player:
“A debut is always difficult, but we have to take the positives from the match. Our goalkeeper made some excellent saves, the defence was solid at times, and the attack just needs to gain confidence”.
