Chile adds its first victory against Paraguay in the SCA Senior Beach Handball

A crucial match was being played between Paraguay and Chile during the morning shift on day 2 of the South Central Beach Handball Tournament, Asunción 2024. Paraguay had just lost to Brazil and Argentina, and Chile to Uruguay and Brazil. Therefore, the winner of this confrontation was a possible candidate for fourth place in the table, which would allow him to play for qualification for the World Cup in China. The match went to the Chileans by two 2 sets to 0.

A dramatic first set took place in the Asunción Olympic Park, under a close match, with very even levels, the Chilean team took the set 13-12 just for details.

In front of their audience, Paraguay started a brilliant second set that remained in the lead until at least the first 5 minutes with a difference of 4 goals. But, after passing half of the set, the Chileans managed to filter the defense of the locals and gradually take the lead. Mauro Rosso’s great scoring efficiency with 14 goals helped Chile close the set 22-18. Winning the match 2-0, and keeping the two points.

After this result, Paraguay is forced to beat Uruguay to continue with the hope of qualifying for the World Cup. While Chile must defeat Peru to place fourth in the standings and aspire to third place in the tournament.

Ignacio Soto, Chile national team player: “It was an intense and complicated match. I think our team was superior in terms of attitude and that allowed us to achieve the first victory of the tournament”.

Oscar Vairoleto, Paraguay national team player: “It was a key match for us, to aim for third and fourth place. We couldn’t against a very tough opponent like Chile, we didn’t know how to replicate the goals we needed in attack”.
