Brazil advances undefeated to the South Central Beach Handball finals, Asunción 2024

The last match of the third day of the South Central Beach Handball Tournament, played at the Olympic Park in Asunción, Paraguay, was the South American classic. Brazil and Argentina, both qualified for the final, faced each other to define the leader of the standings. It started evenly, but Argentina could not beat the Verdeamerela powerhouse, which won 2-0.

In a match that would be the prelude to what we will see tomorrow Saturday in the final, Brazil and Argentina played an even first set. In the first five minutes of the match, Argentina knew how to filter the Brazilian defense very well, staying ahead by two goals. However, Brazil’s effective counterattack ended the albiceleste advantage, closing the set with a tight 21-18 in favor of the green and yellow.

The second set, Brazil did not extend its advantage by more than 4 goals and Argentina little by little was getting closer. But after more than half of the set, all the experience of the Brazilian goalkeeper, Cristiano Seben, made his goal shine, preventing the Albiceleste squad from getting closer on the scoreboard on multiple occasions.

Finally, it ended with the score 21-7 in favor of Brazil. With this result, the Verdeamerela is positioned at the top of the table and tomorrow they would repeat the match against the Argentines to define the champion of the 2024 SCA Beach Handball Tournament.

Post-match statements:
Cristiano Seben, player of the Brazil national team: “We knew that today’s game was important, the qualification and the final game will be tomorrow with Argentina, but it is always good to finish with a victory, we delivered and now we know that it will be more difficult to play the end with them”.

Francisco Daudinot, Argentina national team player: “Although the match was very tough, very even, we believe that tomorrow in the final we will be able to compete for the gold medal. This game, more than just to close the group, was to see each other and play a game before the final against them”.

In other men’s matches, Chile beat Peru 2-0, placing fourth in the standings. The locals could not beat the Uruguayan team and fell 2-0.
