After the 28th edition of the IHF World Cup in Poland and Sweden 2023, the International Handball Federation (IHF) announced the qualification system for the men’s competition of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024, event involving 12 teams.
In addition to the direct routes of qualification that are the continental tournaments, will be held three qualifying tournaments, The OQT, IHF Olympic Qualification Tournaments. These will have four participating teams in each and the first two teams of each tournament will access a quota in the Olympics.
In this way, the South and Central American region will have two ways to reach the Olympic Games with two seats: one direct and one indirect. The first is awarded to the champion of the upcoming Pan American Games of Santiago 2023, and the second to the vice champion of Santiago 2023 who qualifies for the Qualifying Tournament No 1.
For now, Spain and Hungary are part of the same tournament, while the third participant will be an Asian team that is still waiting for its definition.
The qualifying event will be held between 11 and 17 March next year and is waiting for the development of the corresponding competitions to officially define 1 of the 12 places for the most important sporting event in the world.
