Chile is one of the eight countries that will be present at the next South and Central American Handball Championship Recife 2022. For this tournament, “La Roja” is already preparing to face one of its main challenges: qualify for the IHF World Cup in Sweden – Poland 2023.
“The primary objective is to qualify for the World Cup directly and then fight for the medal and try to get into the final”, said Spanish coach Mateo Garralda, who has led the team since 2016 and has been the manager of the great achievements that has had the Chilean team in recent years.
In the last edition of the Tournament in Maringá in 2020, the Chilean team was surprisingly defeated by Uruguay, thus remaining in fourth place in the table and seeing, until that moment, their participation in the Egypt 2021 World Cup frustrated.
Finally, the Chilean team did manage to be in Egypt, given that with the advance of the pandemic, the playoffs that granted one more place to the South and Central American Region was suspended, and COSCABAL decided to give that place to the team with the best ranking in the ranking: Chile.
To avoid this situation, and meet the objective of qualifying directly, Chileans must face the great South American powers, Argentina and Brazil, who always stand out and remain at the top of the table. However, the Spanish coach does not believe that Chile should have a complex before these. “We have to bear in mind that, at the team level, we can face them, play great games and we can also beat them”, Garralda said.
In this way, the Chilean team, which began its concentration on December 21, aims to vindicate itself for Maringá 2020, thus aspiring to stay on the podium of the best in America.
