Costa Rica is its first time in the South and Central American Handball Championship

Between January 25 and 29 of this year, 8 teams from the continent will face the South and Central American Handball Championship Recife 2022, certificate of character classification for the next IHF World Cup Sweden – Poland 2023.

Brazil, Argentina, Uruguai, Bolívia, Paraguai and Chile, are the countries that were once again present in Brazilian lands, on the other hand, for Colombia and Costa Rica this will be the first edition.

Handball in Costa Rica is a sport that has been practiced since the 1960s, strongly influenced by German culture. However, the consolidation of the sport comes from the end of the 90’s, when the “ticos” made their first Pan American Handball Championship in 1996 and obtained the 8th place.

For the Central American team, being a participant in the qualifying tournament is something they have been waiting for a long time, so they will seek to represent the country in the best way and perhaps mark a milestone in the history of Costa Rican sport if they manage to obtain one of the four places for the IHF World Cup.

In Recife 2022, Costa Rica, one of the powers of Central American handball, will take on the challenge of facing Chile, Argentina and Brazil – the best in South America – and they hope to be one of the great surprises of the tournament.
