Chile in Recife 2022: La Roja’s revenge to qualify directly for the IHF World Cup

The best teams on the continent are preparing for the 2022 Recife South and Central American Handball Championships, an event that will give places to the XXVIII edition of the IHF World Cup Sweden and Poland 2023.

In this contest, 8 teams from America will face: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile, the latter being one of the great powers of the continental tournament.

In the last ten years, La Roja has shown a rapid evolution in handball and has managed to position itself as one of the best teams in America, managing to occupy the podium of the South American, Panamerican and Bolivarian Games on several occasions; and ranking within the 20 best in the world according to the IHF ranking.

Players like Rodrigo Salinas, Emil Feutchmann and Felipe García stand out within La Roja, and who have been part of this golden generation of Chilean handball.

All this merit also goes to his current Team Manager, Mateo Garralda, the Spaniard who has led Chile for five years and has managed to leave the southern country at the top.

Despite the fact that the Chilean team didn’t manage to qualify directly for the 2021 World Cup in Egypt, it did have a good campaign during the Maringá 2020 tournament. For the next qualifying event that takes place in Recife, Brazil, La Roja will seek revenge in obtaining quotas, in order to ensure their passage through Sweden and Poland in January 2023.
