Recife 2022: The Uruguayan dream of returning to the IHF World Cup

After a good performance in the South and Central American Tournament of Maringá 2020, the Uruguayan team was in third place in the championship, which meant that for the first time in its history it would be part of a World Championship.

Thus, they came to compete in the IHF World Cup in Egypt 2021, where they managed to pass the group stage after the withdrawal of the Cape Verde team due to a coronavirus outbreak. In any case, La Celeste managed to be ranked 24th in the world ranking, which set a precedent in his country for future generations.

Nicolás Guerra’s Uruguayan team seeks to repeat history in Recife 2022 with the help of its great stars: Gabriel Chaparro, Christian Rostagno and Maxi Cancio, the latter one of the Egypt World Cup scorers with 17 goals.

Although La Celeste continues to work and fight to professionalize the sport in its country, it is a team that is growing strongly and rapidly in America and that seeks to demonstrate it in Recife 2022.
