Teams qualified for the 2020 IHF Women’s Junior and Youth World Cups

The International Handball Federation (IHF) has officially communicated the approval of the proposal of the South and Central American Handball Confederation to designate its representatives to the Youth (U-18) and Junior (U-20) Women’s World Championships based in the 2018 classification, which is great news for our continent.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic that our continent has been experiencing since March of this year, the restrictions that different countries have been adopting to reduce mobility and reduce the risks of contagion posed a very complex and difficult scenario for holding the tournaments. qualifiers scheduled for 2020.

Let us remember that the only qualifying tournament held this year was in Maringá, Brazil, with the participation of six countries from the region. Initially, the qualifying tournaments had to be postponed and then all competitions scheduled for 2020 were suspended.

Anticipating how prolonged this situation could be and how risky it was to postpone a decision indefinitely in this regard and that it could even put the places in these tournaments at risk, both the Executive Committee and the Council agreed to bring the motion to the Assembly. that the youth teams of Brazil, Chile and Argentina and the juniors of Brazil, Chile and Paraguay, due to having placed in the first 3 positions in the previous qualifier, were our representatives.

The proposal was presented and defended, presenting the arguments that justified it before the IHF Council, achieving its total and complete support. The response of the International Federation has been made official on September 9, where it is reported that according to what was resolved at the IHF Council meeting, the motion is ACCEPTED according to the information reported regarding the impossibility of holding the tournaments. continental qualifiers due to the COVID-19 contingency made in June by the President of the CoSCABal. He then indicates that at the Council meeting on September 3, it was decided to accept the proposal made to consider the countries that qualified in 2018 to represent the continent in the 2020 versions of the IHF Women’s Youth and Junior World Championships.

Therefore, the countries classified for the 2020 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship to be held in Croatia according to the 2018 classification are BRAZIL, CHILE and ARGENTINA, which have already confirmed their intention to participate.

For their part, the countries classified for the 2020 IHF Junior Women’s World Championship that will be held in Romania between December 1 and 13 are Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.

Without a doubt, this achievement is great news for our continent and generates certainty at least about the national teams qualified for these tournaments, helping our representatives to schedule their preparation as much as possible to face this global challenge in such special conditions.
