Argentina lost to Poland and finished 6th at the World Beach Games

Argentina closed its participation in the Doha competition with a 2-0 loss against Poland and was ranked 6th.

Although the Albiceleste team played a good first set (they lost it 15-14), in the second they were far from their maximum level and suffered a 20-10 that prevented them from finishing in 5th place at the World Beach Games.

In the first round they beat Denmark and Hungary, teams that were gold and bronze medalists in the 2018 European Championship. They also beat Greece, the current world champions, in the fight for 5th place.

“I think we can give more and play better. I don’t think that was our best game or our ceiling,” said Neuquén pivot Gisella Bonomi about the opening defeat against Brazil.

Gisella Bonomi, one of the main Argentine players for the future.

The Argentine offense was a mainstay throughout the week, with very high points in Bonomi herself, in the wingers with Agustina Mirotta and Fiorella Corimberto, and in the leadership with assists and goals from the specialist Ivana Elijas. The combination between the adult players with years in the national team and the young players who have just won gold at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games is an attractive cocktail that surpasses itself tournament after tournament.

In defense, Florencia Bericio offered guarantees and is covered by captain Celeste Meccia, while Luciana Scordamaglia and Zoe Turnes are two barriers that constantly wear down the rival attack.
