Youth World Cup: Brazil finishes in 21st place after defeating continental rival Chile

Brazil finished the 2019 IHF World Junior Championship in 21st position, their lowest position since participating in the tournaments since 2007.

It was not the tournament that Brazil expected to do, it ended with its lowest ranking in seven participations in youth world championships, in 2017 it had finished 19th.

In the absence of its captain, Tarcisio Freitas Oliveira, after suffering a serious knee injury, Brazil was slow to assert its regional dominance, finding itself down 4-0 after 6 minutes of play until José Luciano Costa da Silva scored his fifth strike to tied 13-13 and then his teammate Luis Andre Saboia da Silva scored to go into halftime one goal up 14-13.

After the break, Chile could not get back on level terms, they had a poor last quarter, scoring only twice in the last 15′ as Brazil advanced to confirm a victory, closing the score at 30-22. Best player of the match: Jose Luciano Costa da Silva (BRA)
