Brazil finishes 21st in the Men’s World Junior Championship. It’s their lowest finish since they participated in international tournaments starting in 2007.
It wasn’t the tournament Brazil had hoped for; the Brazilian team finished with their lowest ranking in seven World Junior Championship appearances.
It’s worth noting that they finished 19th in the 2017 edition, their highest finish.
Complications
Meanwhile, an injury sidelined their captain, Tarcisio Freitas Oliveira, from the team after suffering a serious knee injury.
Furthermore, Brazil was slow to assert its regional dominance, trailing 4-0 after 6 minutes of play in what was their final match against Chile to determine the competition’s standings.
José Luciano Costa Da Silva scored his fifth strike to tie the match at 13-13, and then his teammate Luis Andre Saboia Da Silva scored to take a 14-13 lead into halftime.
Second Half
After the break, Chile was unable to regain its footing, having a poor final quarter, scoring only twice in the final 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, Brazil advanced to secure a 30-22 victory. The best player of the match was Jose Luciano Costa da Silva.
With this result, the Brazilians took 21st place in the Men’s Youth World Cup. It wasn’t the result the South American powerhouse was looking for.
