South-Central Handball Junior World Cup results
Brazil closed its participation in the Junior World Cup with a 36–30 loss to Sweden and finished in 12th place in the overall standings.
The South American team started better and dominated in the first 20 minutes: it led 8–5 at the 10th minute and 12–10 at the 20th minute, but Sweden changed pace at the end of the first half, took the lead at 24 minutes, and never relinquished the advantage.
In the decisive stretch, the Europeans extended their lead and sealed the victory by six goals. Ludvig Jurmala Åström was the match’s top scorer with seven goals.
Chile loses to Nigeria and falls to 20th
Chile finished 20th after losing 34–26 to Nigeria in the positional playoff. The African team got off to a blistering start with an 8–0 run that determined the rest of the match; Chile created chances but lacked effectiveness in finishing.
In the second half, Nigeria again stretched the lead to double digits (28–18 in the 54th minute), even playing several minutes without one of their key players, Victor Gbenga Rotibi, who was sent off with a straight red card for a foul on Diego Arancibia. Danilo Salgado led Chile’s scoring with 8 goals, followed by Maximiliano Cabrera with 4.

Argentina beat the USA and close 21st
Argentina closed 21st by beating the United States 23–20, finishing with two wins —both in the President’s Cup— and five losses in the group stage.
In the prelims, the Albiceleste fell to Germany (43–25), Iceland (26–22), Denmark (31–23), Chile (25–22) and Norway (31–21).
The turnaround arrived in the Cup phase with wins over Kosovo (36–29) and the USA (23–20). “The balance is positive, even if it wasn’t what we expected; the USA improved a lot since we met in Portugal,” said David Hernán Schenkel after the finale.

In short, the regional balance left Brazil as the highest-ranked team among the three South American teams present, Chile in the Top 20, and Argentina with a promising farewell thanks to its two consecutive victories in the President’s Cup.
